Jenn-Air Stove Self Cleaning Problem
I have a Jenn-Air gas/electric convection stove (down drafting) which is great. The other day we put it into self-cleaning mode, which requires you to lock the door after removing the oven racks, which presumably can melt during the intense heat of self-cleaning.
After it ran thru the cycle, we were unable to unlock the door. A quick search online showed this to be a common problem. Of course, I was not able to locate the manual - the stove came with the house. I learned several things that may be useful. For about 1 day we were unable to get the stove door to unlock. Very frustrating. I thought the self-cleaning cycle had gotten too hot and fried the stoves little computer brain, blown a solenoid or something else.
First, the model number of the stove is located by removing the kick plate under the oven door.
Second, to solve the locked door problem there are several solutions to try. You can cut off power to the unit by unplugging it or turning off power at the circuit breaker. This failed to solve our problem. You can also restart the cleaning cycle and then cancel it. I tried unsuccessfully to do this using the timer buttons. Then after sleeping on it, setting up an appointment with a technician, and forgetfully preparing a meat loaf... with ground beef meatloaf mix on my hands I restarted the self-cleaning cycle and once it was in auto, I simply moved the locking lever to the unlocked position. It worked! The stove door unlocked and we had our oven back!
