WPI student accused of raping woman
A Worcester Polytechnic Institute student accused of raping another student over the weekend, despite the woman’s alleged pleas for him to stop, was ordered in Central District Court yesterday to stay away from all college property. Gregory R. Gardner Jr., 22, of 7 Dean St., Apt. 1, was arraigned on two counts of rape and one count each of kidnapping and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14. The charges stem from an alleged rape that occurred Saturday night or Sunday morning in the parking lot of Bancroft Tower.

Alcohol citations cloud BU ski trip
Vermont State Police cited 30 people traveling with the Boston University Ski and Board Club with possession of alcohol or drugs at a Canadian border crossing Monday. Customs officers found several passengers were under 21 years old and had alcohol with them, police said in a statement. State Police issued 26 citations for minors in possession of alcohol. Additionally, they cited four passengers to appear in court to face drug possession charges.

Present safety reports, judge tells landlords
A Boston Housing Court judge ordered the owners of a Chinatown apartment building that was evacuated because of safety concerns earlier this month to hire engineers by Monday or face fines, according to court documents. The city’s Inspectional Services Department and Fire Department wrote a complaint against Alexander and Julie Szeto of Southborough last Wednesday, calling for immediate correction of code violations in the five-story building at 19-25 Harrison Ave. and monetary assistance for displaced residents.

Plainville teen finalist in Space Lab contest
Emerald Bresnahan, a 17-year-old from Plainville, was one of 2,000 students globally who designed experiments and submitted them online for a chance to have their theories tested at the international space station. Bresnahan’s experiment is designed to test her thesis that by studying the formation of a snowflake, much can be learned about the birth of a galaxy. Yesterday, YouTube and Google announced Bresnahan is one of nine finalists in the YouTube Space Lab competition.
